True Interest is an iOS app that helps you understand the real cost of a
U.S. student loan. This policy explains what information the app handles and
what it does not. We built True Interest to need as little of your data as
possible.
The short version: We don't ask you to create an account.
We don't collect your name, email, Social Security number, or account
numbers. Your loan numbers are calculated on your device. We never sell your
data and we show no ads.
1. Information we do NOT collect
We do not require you to sign in or create an account.
We do not ask for or store your name, email address, phone number, Social Security number, or full bank/loan account numbers.
When the app reads a loan document, it is instructed to extract loan numbers only (such as amount, interest rate, and term) and to ignore identifying details like names, addresses, and account numbers.
We do not use third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.
2. Loan documents you scan
If you choose to scan a loan document, the photo or PDF is sent securely to
our processing service, which uses Google's Gemini AI to read the loan
numbers and return them to your device.
The document is used only to read the loan numbers. Our service does not store the image or PDF after processing.
The temporary file is deleted from your device after the scan completes.
All money calculations are performed on your device by the app, not by the AI.
3. Purchases
The full "True Cost Report" is a paid feature. Purchases are processed by
Apple. We use RevenueCat
to manage purchases and to keep track of how many report credits you have.
To do this, we use an anonymous purchase identifier and the purchase transaction information. This is not linked to your name or personal identity.
We do not receive or store your credit card number — Apple handles payment.
4. Information stored on your device
Your most recent saved result is stored locally on your device so you can
view it again. This stays on your device and is removed if you delete the app.
True Interest is intended for people considering or managing a student loan.
It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect
personal information from children under 13.
7. Security
Data sent between the app and our processing service is encrypted in transit.
Because we don't store your documents and don't collect identifying
information, there is very little personal data to expose.
8. Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles information, we will update this page and
change the "Last updated" date above.
